Culina Highlands- Edmonton, Alberta

Last weekend, we returned to Edmonton for the holidays. The city broke a record for the coldest December 13th ever! Minus 46 degrees Celsius at Edmonton International Airport and -58 with windchill!

On that day, we braved the freezing climate to have brunch in celebration of the birthdays of my wife and sister. We ventured to a neighbourhood gem that had recently garnered rave reviews and made the #9 spot on EnRoute magazine's Best New Restaurants of 2009.

Culina Highlands is all about local suppliers and the fare reflects a Ukrainian history. Hot comfort food provided with warm service... just what we needed that day while living in the coldest place in North America.

Brunch

Organic French Press coffee for two

HAIR OF THE DOG: Nathan's Famous Bacon Caesar with clamato, horseradish, premium vodka, lime and garnished with crispy applewood smoked bacon

Lemon, Horseradish and BACON! garnish

Again... bacon was the garnish!

Berbere Steak with Chocolate Demi accompanied by Salmon & Prawn Fritatta and Fennel Gratin

Ukrainian Breakfast- cheddar and toasted caraway omelette with kubassa and pyrohy topped with bacon gremolata

Kubassa

Baba's pyrohies with sour cream and bacon gremolata

Dill Crepes with Gravlox, poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise

Apple Crumble with Pinocchio's bourbon vanilla ice-cream

Berry Compote Pavlova with blueberries and Granny Smith apples

Highly highly recommended!
